Annual Conference: Options for the Future
DATE:
18 December 1998
The ALA Conference Committee is presenting its study document, "Options for the Future," for your review and suggestions. Members of the ALA Executive Board and Council will receive hard copies. The full document is also posted at the ALA website.
We are seeking feedback and suggestions from as many members as possible. Prior to Midwinter, you may send your comments to Mary Ghikas at mghikas@ala.org or in written form to 50 East Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611, or to me, at marupert@aol.com or 49 Gov. Wentworth Road, Amherst, NH 03031.
The ALA Conference Committee will hold two information sessions during Midwinter. The first is Sunday, January 31, from 8:00am to 9:00am, in the ALA Council room in the Philadelphia Convention Center. We particularly invite Councilors to attend this session and will conduct round table discussions with small groups of councilors, to gather their opinions and suggestions. All Midwinter attendees are welcome to observe.
The second information session is also on Sunday, January 31, in the ALA Council room in the Philadelphia Convention Center, from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm. We are calling it the "Brown Bag Program Planners Lunch," and will provide soft drinks and cookies to supplement the lunch you bring. (So, it would be helpful if you would let us know you plan to attend. Email to mghikas@ala.org This will be an informal question and answer and feedback session. Special invitations will be sent to program planners in each division and round table, but we encourage all interested members to participate.
The study document represents the work of the committee over the last two years and the contributions of many members representative of a broad cross section of ALA. I would like to thank them for their efforts, with special thanks to Mary Ghikas, our ALA staff liaison, and Robert Newlen, our ALA Executive Board liaison, for their support.
