IN THE NEWS
C&RL News, September 2007 Vol. 68, No. 8
Every September, college and university libraries return to full swing after the summer break with a new term and new students. This September also represents a new beginning at C&RL News with a new editor. I am looking forward to continuing to bring you the quality articles you have come to expect from the News.
As we look ahead to the future, the September issue provides a chance to look back on the experiences of ALA Annual Conference. This issue features summaries of 17 ACRL section and committee programs presented in Washington, D.C. With topics ranging from embracing change to using new technologies in instruction, the conference provided many opportunities for learning for academic librarians. A big thank you is in order to all of our wonderful conference report contributors! ALA Annual Conference also means business. This issue features a report on recent actions of the ACRL Board of Directors, which is a great place to learn more about the direction of ACRL. Several new standards and guidelines were also approved in Washington, D.C. We feature two this month. Make sure to look for additional standards, guidelines, and reports in upcoming issues.
Julie Todaro stepped into her new role as 2007–08 ACRL president at the conclusion of the 2007 Annual Conference. Take a look at her article to learn about her focus for the upcoming year, and her ideas for improving your association over the long term. While her main focus is on recruitment and retention, her goals address many important topics, including diversity issues.
Of course conference isn’t the sole focus of the issue. This month also features articles on streamlining electronic course reserves, open access publishing, and a trip to Africa supporting student research. Enjoy!
