ALA supports equal, ready and equitable access to information collected, compiled, produced, funded and/or disseminated by the government of the United States. ALA also supports the protection of individual privacy in information collected, compiled, produced, funded and/or disseminated by the government of the United States, and the right of individuals to gain anonymous access to government information.
ALA focuses on a variety of public access issues in this arena, including funding for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the Government Printing Office (GPO), legislative and policy proposals related to the administration, publication, distribution, and organization of government information as well as Community Right-to-Know, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and related access issues.
ALA works closely other ALA units on government information issues, especially the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT).
